So many of our micro loan borrowers have gone on to become more strong, independent and empowered than they ever thought possible. Below are the stories of three borrowers who overcome great adversity through the power of micro loans. These success stories are typical of the tens of thousands of borrowers we have helped since 2006.
Jennifer is a 39-year-old single mother of six who sells silverfish and grows rice and sesame on seven acres. She said she joined our programs because she admired those who already participated. “At one point,” she said, “I had a misunderstanding with my husband after he had taken away all my savings and married another woman with it. Life became a mess as I had to provide for my children, yet was left with nothing.” She credits The Greater Contribution for providing her with counseling and gaining the strength to “stand tall.”

Before Doreen, 40, joined The Greater Contribution, she could afford to purchase and sell a small basin of silverfish for profit. Today, she purchases about three to four basins of silverfish, okra, tomatoes, onions, and eggplants. In addition to her six biological children, she says The Greater Contribution has given her the strength to take six more children under her care. She’s learned business and saving skills that make her look at the world differently.
With the confidence The Greater Contribution has instilled in her, Doreen is a political leader on her local council representing disabled people. She never looks at herself as disabled and her disability will not keep her from being successful in life and serving her community. Doreen extends her joy, happiness, and thanks to members of The Greater Contribution team for their generous hearts.

Alice, 47 years old and married with nine children, is a farmer and sells cassava in the market. She says The Greater Contribution brought joy in her life.
After completing the literacy and business training courses, “I was able to buy my own piece of land that am now living on,” she said. “I farm three acres of rice, two acres of cassava and I have bought livestock that will increase my income after selling them.”
As a result of her new, sustainable income, Alice said she can afford to take care of her family’s basic needs. “And my relationship with my husband has been made perfect with no more domestic violence.”
